My Birth Class

  • Four week series, three hours each class, totaling 12 hours

  • A doula's guide to empowered, supported, evidence based birth practices, our original curriculum was created by the doulas of MyBirth and reflects our 20+ years of combined childbirth experience. With the MyBirth childbirth education class, you will gain a thorough understanding of the mechanics of birth, comfort measures for pregnancy and labor, how to remain active and be your own advocate, breastfeeding basics, what to expect postpartum, and adjusting to life with a new baby.

  • Though geared towards achieving an unmedicated birth, we will also thoroughly cover common interventions/medications, family-centered cesareans, and how to be flexible when confronted with a new direction in your birth's trajectory.

    • Class One: Your birth goals, nutrition and health, how our babies grow, how our bodies open, the stages of labor

    • Class Two: Comfort measures for labor, helpful tips for laboring at home and in the hospital

    • Class Three: Common interventions/procedures in pregnancy and birth, finding flexibility in birth, labor with an epidural, and family centered cesareans

    • Class Four: Life with your newborn, feeding your baby, the physical and mental recovery after birth

  • A fun, interactive class with multiple approaches to learning. We pride ourselves on engaging our students and insuring that the information is interesting, accessible, and easy to remember.

Lactation Happens: Confident Beginnings

  • One day, three hour class

  • A doula's guide to breastfeeding success. Taught by Ashley Johnson, Certified Lactation Counselor and MyBIrth doula, this course was designed with the doulas of MyBirth to help avoid the pitfalls of early nursing, with a large focus on the first three days, three weeks, and three months of nursing.

  • The class will cover: mechanics of nursing and milk transfer, how to prepare for nursing or lactating for your baby, getting a good start, steps to a good latch, how to protect against interruption/interference, lactation pitfalls, realities and real talk about nursing/lactation, common problems, the benefits of nursing, how partners and families can support nursing parents.

  • Educational materials provided.

  • $60 for the pregnant person plus the partner of their choice (e.g., other parent, mothers. fathers, sisters, aunts, best friend; whomever you'll be relying on for help with your new baby!).

  • Offered the first Saturday of each month from 9am-12pm

  • If you are nursing and returning to work, this class has everything you need to know. Do you need a freezer stash? How often do you need to pump? What does the law say about that? What about storing expressed milk? What the heck is paced bottle feeding? If your baby reverse cycles, will they need training wheels? What about weekends or days off? How will you feel emotionally about the whole thing? Come to this action-packed class to find the answers to all of these questions and more.

  • Designed to be taken with or without attending our monthly Confident Beginnings lactation class.

  • Offered Quarterly on the second Thursday of September, December, March, June from 6:00pm to 7:00pm

My Nourished Baby

  • Learn how food and a healthy lifestyle can nourish your growing baby, and support a healthy pregnancy!

  • In this class, we will talk about key nutrients for baby’s development, and how to avoid specific conditions during pregnancy. We will also address questions about what’s ok to eat and what you should limit.

  • During class you’ll enjoy some yummy snacks, and walk away with some meal planning tips and recipes to prepare at home.

  • Class repeats the second Wednesday evening of every month from 6pm-9pm

My Baby Class

  • Find balance with your new baby!

  • Our doula's guide to a smoother transition to parenthood taught by Claire Prendergast, a DONA Certified Postpartum Doula, who has worked with over 20 newborns and their families. This class comes out of her experience with families and their most common questions and concerns about the "fourth trimester" or first 3 months of baby's life (and beyond).

  • Through My Baby Class, you will learn about baby's cues, sleep cycles/rhythms, breastfeeding basics and

  • soothing techniques in order to work with your baby's biology to ensure maximum rest and feeding success. Our class will cover what is essential, what can wait, and what you can do without. It will also offer a realistic picture of the the emotional and logistical landscape of life with a new baby and practical advice for how to navigate it more smoothly.

  • Parents are welcome to attend during pregnancy or with their new babies!

  • This class will provide sources of up-to-date, evidence-based information as well as local community resources.

  • $75 for pregnant person and partner(s) of their choice (other parent, mothers. fathers, sisters, aunts, best friend; whomever you'll be relying on for help with your new baby!)

Mindful Preparation for Conception - A Holistic Approach

  • Would you like to learn about a more holistic, mindful approach to conception and pregnancy? Want to learn how specific foods may help to naturally boost fertility, and the key role nutrition plays in preconception? MyBirth and Virginia Fertility Associates have the answers.

  • Pregnancy can be one of the greatest joys in life, and nutrition can play an important role in helping couples who are trying to conceive. In the informative session, learn about foods that play an important role in helping women (and men!) naturally boost their fertility for conception, how to optimize your fertility diet, and key tips for a nutrient-rich diet. We'll also sample a few recipes that have been carefully created for prenatal health and wellness and discuss the main nutrients in the recipes that support preconception.

  • We'll also touch on the potential benefits of:

    • complimentary wellness techniques, such as acupuncture and integrative medicine

    • mindfulness and restorative yoga

    • finding the fitness plan that's right for you

  • Sara Fields of Wellness Intentioned, Shady Grove Fertility, MyBirth, and The Women's Hospital at Henrico Doctors' Hospital are proud to offer this unique class the last Saturday of every other month in the MyBirth Community Studio.

KyzerDog: Dogs & Babies Seminar

  • Concerned about how your dog will react to your impending arrival? Join KyzerDog's Master Behavior Training Specialist Jenn Kyzer as she discusses the transition to parenthood as it pertains to your dog(s).

  • Jenn will highlight how to prepare your dog for baby's arrival, how to introduce your baby to your dog, the new relationship your dog will have with you, and how to work with your dog when your child becomes mobile.

  • You'll learn not only good dog-baby skills, but good general training basics in the process.
